Operational Director of Estates & Facilities

Band 9

You will be a visible, inclusive and collaborative leader, ensuring delivery of the Trust’s vision to provide the highest possible standards of compassionate care; the very best patient and colleague experience; and to listen to and involve patients, employees and carers.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Operational Director of Estates and Facilities will provide professional leadership and expert advice in all matters relating to the day to day management of the Estates and Facilities Care Group, ensuring delivery of all statutory and regulatory standards and ensure compliance with national standards and policies. 

Main duties of the job

You will provide leadership to and take responsibility for the performance management of all estate and facilities activities across the Trust ensuring that a robust risk management environment is in place and that corporate governance procedures are complied with.

You will be accountable for the establishment and delivery of the Trust’s Estate & Facilities Strategy and the creation and review of relevant policies.  These documents will include emphasis on the quality and safety of the estate and facilities now and into the future, the capturing and sharing of best practice and the delivery of support services that ensure the provision is of appropriate, safe, effective and efficient quality, achieved within the resources identified.

Working for our organisation

The Trust is embarking on a large scale programme of transformational change and the post holder will be expected to ensure that Estates and Facilities services are aligned to the clinical, workforce, quality, governance and finance strategies of the Trust, of Bay Health and Care Partners and broader across the ICS.

A significant estates development programme is the Trust’s partnership with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in the New Hospitals Programme.  The is currently working through a programme of development for Lancaster and Preston drawing up the Case for Change and developing new clinical models and options for delivery to inform the Strategic outline Case through 21/22.

You will combine gravitas and intellect with extensive professional estates experience and will have a strong track record of delivery, able to manage multiple projects and drive change.

You will need to be politically astute, intellectually agile with excellent communication skills.  Creative, innovative and highly skilled at forging relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, you must demonstrate passion and empathy for the values of the Trust

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with aspirations and ambition of attaining Executive Board leadership roles in the future.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent postgraduate level ability and experience)
  • Appropriate Professional qualification/ registration or accreditation eg Chartered Building Institute or Chartered Engineering Institute
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development, including leadership development
  • Project management qualification or relevant experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Successful track record of working in a senior Estates and Facilities role within an environment of comparable scale and complexity
  • Extensive specialist knowledge and expertise across Estates and Facilities disciplines
  • Proven record of leading a complex, multi-faceted change and modernisation programme aimed at raising organisational performance in relation to Estates and Facilities
  • Experience of the strategic development, project management and implementation of new build projects
  • Experience of developing and implementing corporate strategies with a track record of success in delivering national and local targets
