Job overview

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, well-motivated newly qualified and experienced nurses Registered Nurses to join our Gynaecological Nursing team at Furness General Hospital. 

Based on Ward 1, you will participate in a fully integrated Gynaecological nursing service covering inpatients, day case surgery and outpatients, with internal rotation to night duty. 

Main duties of the job


We provide a Gynaecology Assessment Unit, Early Pregnancy Unit, and are looking to expand our Nurse led services.

We also have a responsibility to care for non Gynaecology In patients.

This service is developing and therefore you will need to be flexible and adaptable.

An interest in women’s health issues, good communication skills and a commitment to providing high standards of care are essential attributes for the post.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st Level Registered Nurse
  • Mentor qualification or willingness to Undertake the relevant teaching
  • IT skills(2)
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration clinical course appropriate to gynaecology/women's health field

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working within a Multi disciplinary team
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience within a gynaecology/women's health field either as a qualified nurse or as a student nurse(2)

  • Demonstrable appropriate/specific clinical skills: to include basic life support skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Up to date knowledge of professional issues
