This is a 12 month secondment or fixed term development opportunity.

We are looking for motivated enthusiastic Staff Nurses to join our team on the Patient Progression Unit.

PPU is an acute 4 bedded step up step down unit , admitting patients via the emergency department, theatre/recovery, wards and ICU. Patients on PPU require a higher level of care and closer monitoring for their complex care needs, also requiring a patient staff ratio of 1:2. We have a cohesive well established team and this post will provide a fantastic development opportunity for a newly qualified nurse or an experienced registered nurse.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the PPU team you will be encouraged and supported to develop your clinical skills and achieve continuous personal development.

You will care for 2 higher level patients ensuring holistic and patient centred care. You will liaise directly with the surgical/medical team caring for the patient as well the wider MDT ensuring a seamless patient journey.

The department is committed to appraisal, to support continuous education and professional development. You will be required to participate in providing 24 hour cover. Rotation into ICU is an opportunity to the successful applicant.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (on the relevant part of the register for the post)
  • Willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post – and to use and maintain these skills in the delivery of care
  • Willingness to undertake, teaching, mentoring and/or assessing qualifications
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration clinical course appropriate to area

  • Working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of establishing effective communication
  • Experience of implementing change
