University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographic area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District. We provide a comprehensive range of acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay. One of the largest employers in the area, we have approximately 6,000 staff working across five sites; Furness General Hospital (Barrow in Furness), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), Ulverston Community Health Centre and Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe). Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative Advanced Nurse Practitioner to work within the Integrated Community Care Group at the University Hospital of Morecombe Bay (UHMB).

Abbey View is a 24 bedded community inpatient unit based at Furness General Hospital. Abbey View provides ongoing medical and therapy needs to patients who no longer need acute care. This includes patients who require rehabilitation , end of life care or ongoing support following exacerbations of acute / chronic conditions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be based at Abbey View in Barrow in Furness. There will also be an expectation for the post holder to be flexible to be able to support other community inpatients including Millom and the Langdale Unit on a rotational basis.

As the Advanced Nurse Practitioner, you will provide expert care and treatment to patients within agreed protocols and clinical guidelines but where appropriate, will also have the ability to make decisions outside these framework based on best practice. You should have the skills and experience to work collaboratively with clinical colleagues, leading the development of clinical services within medicine and improving quality of care.

Education and Qualification

Essential criteria
  • RN
  • Masters in Advanced Practice or undertaking the same
  • Non medical Prescriber
  • Relevant teaching qualfication
  • completed accredited communication skills training
  • Registered mentor
  • Evidence of continued professional development
