We would like to invite colleagues to apply for the Deputy Medical Director Role.  

This competitive process is now open. 

The role is appointed on a fixed term basis of 1-year renewable basis and is renewable through an open competitive process.  The role will be based at FGH with a requirement to provide cross site cover including community.  The job description and person specification are attached in an electronic format to this e-mail.  

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Medical Director (DMD) is responsible for site-based clinical leadership within the Trust and across the Care Groups including the integrated care community teams working closely with the care groups Clinical Directors / Leads and their teams.  There are two Deputy Medical Directors and the individuals in these roles are expected to work closely to ensure cross site consistency, collaboration, and engagement of the clinical teams.

The DMD will be a key member of the Trust’s senior management team and will contribute to strategic direction and decision-making processes, with an overriding requirement to act in the corporate interests of the Trust and its patients.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Employed at substantive consultant / SAS / Senior Clinician level with at least 5 years of experience
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Evidence of participation in management development opportunities
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive involvement in management roles
  • Considerable experience in clinical leadership roles
  • Credible to medical colleagues
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in MHPS case management and case managment

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of clinical governance and effective systems of medical management such as job planning appraisal and clinical assessment
  • Understanding of medical recruitment and training matters
  • Demonstrates good strategic awareness of wider NHS issues and the implication of NHS drivers on Trust services
