We are seeking a Consultant to join the current ENT team in the Trust. You will work Cross Bay with Furness General Hospital as the main site. You will be contracted for 10 sessions per week with the option to increase along with service needs. You will need to have a broad experience in general ENT. Any sub-specialty interest will be actively supported.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographic area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District.

Main duties of the job

The ENT department has 5 consultants, 5 Associate specialists and 2 junior doctors (CT1/2 at RLI, FY2 at FGH). We have two H&N Clinical Nurse Specialist, one Advanced Nurse Practitioner in post. There are specialized clinics such as a One stop Head & Neck clinic, Combined `Rhinology clinic, Paediatric clinics, Voice and Vertigo clinic. There are regular audit meetings, radiology meetings and video link meetings for the regional Head & Neck Multi-Disciplinary Team. The weekend on call rota would be 1:5 and weekday 1:4.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We have facilities for Sialendoscopy, Balloon Sinuplasty, and Endoscopic ear surgery, Trans Nasal Oesophagoscopy, BAHA’s and DCR’s and soon navigation for endoscopic sinus surgery. Our H&N network is with Royal Preston Hospital but we also have excellent ties with Manchester Royal Infirmary for Skull Base pathology and Rhinology related conditions. An elaborate audiology service is available for adults and paediatrics. There is an opportunity for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well and we have strong connections with the Lancaster Medical School. We are a paperless department with e-prescribing and e-requesting to be available soon. We would be delighted to offer a suitably qualified ENT Consultant the opportunity to join us, develop and contribute towards excellence in patient care.

You must have full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice and entry on Specialist Register or in the receipt of CCT within six months of interview

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of previous undergraduate teaching experience.
  • Experience of “problem based learning” systems.
  • A diploma in education or other teaching qualification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Entry on the GMC specialist register or be within six months of obtaining your CCT at the time of interview
  • FRCS or an equivalent appropriate higher surgical qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of audit and research experience
  • Higher professional qualifications in ENT surgery, Teaching or Research and Education

  • Experince of working in a multi disciplinary team
  • Evidence of involvement and experience in audit
Desirable criteria
  • Broad based general ENT exposure for adults, paeds and emergencies
