''A great place to be cared for; a great place to work''

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Consultant Haematologist to join our team of 5 Consultants at University hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust. Our department seeks to provide a dynamic, friendly and clinically-led service across all three of our hospitals, Royal Lancaster Infirmary in Lancaster, Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal and Furness General Hospital in Barrow in Furness.

The job plan is for 11PA’s although this can be flexible and successful candidates may have an opportunity to negotiate job plans. There is considerable opportunity for an appointee to develop sub-specialist services across the trust.

Lancaster University is a leading UK institution which now boasts its own independent medical school. Research and education opportunities are plentiful.

You must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and entry on the Specialist Register or within six months of attaining Specialist Registration at the time of interview.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay are aware of the recruitment challenges across the UK and keen to attract enthusiastic committed individuals. In return, we will offer an attractive relocation package and generous SPA allowance as part of the job plan for the right candidate.

Working for UHMBFT

The Trust, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, operates across three Hospitals: Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital.

The successful candidate will be based at the Furness General Hospital which is located within the beautiful Lake District, with easy access to the lakes particularly Lake Windermere.

There is flexibility however for any interested candidate to negotiate working preferentially at any of the other two sites.

There is affordable housing and easy access by road and rail to London (approx. 2hour train journey to London Euston), Manchester, and Liverpool. There is excellent schooling, both state and private. The trust is flexible on distance between home and work in order for applicants to make the most of the surrounding areas of outstanding natural beauty. Indeed, ensuring you get a positive work life balance is important to us so whether it’s fell walking, running or cycling that floats your boat then this is one of the best places to be based!

The Trust has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School, North Western Deanery and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care. UHMBT is the lead NHS organisation for Lancaster Medical School and takes responsibility throughout the five years of the degree for the provision of acute practice placements. Fifth year medical students from Lancaster Medical School spend two months on attachment to the department.

Interview expenses will be paid from point of entry to the UK.
