Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arising within the Research and Development Department , we are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic person who will complement our pre-existing team based at Furness General Hospital.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 2 Research Administrator you will directly contribute to the advancement of knowledge and new practise within the field of Health care.

You will work closely with experienced members of the Research team, in the set up and delivery of research trials.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Research Administrator will work with direction from the Senior Research Nurse. The post holder will work closely with all other members of the research team to ensure the management of research documents maintain filing systems and facilitate the Research Nurse/Practitioner in the timely collection of accurate data.

 

The recruitment, care and monitoring of research subjects is carried out in accordance with the European Clinical Trials Directive and the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research to which the post holder would abide.

 

The Research Administrator will work closely with the Research Nurse/Practitioners and R&D staff in the preparation and completion of comprehensive documentation required by the appropriate regulatory authorities.

The Research Administrator adheres to departmental, hospital and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) policies, procedures and practices.

 

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.

Person specification

Education and Qulifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths at GCSE grade C or equivalent
  • English Language at GCSE grade C or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL Qualification or equivalent
  • NVQ3 in administration or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in an administrative role
  • Experience of data management
  • Experience of using databases
Desirable criteria
  • Previous administration in a research role

Skill, Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to manage an electronic diary
  • Make and maintain electronic files
  • Communicate confidently with others at all professional levels using the telephone email and written forms Proficient user of Microsoft Office software
  • Excellent attention to detail. Methodical with high standards of accuracy
  • Able to demonstrate organisational and prioritising skills
  • Awareness and respect for confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with research terminology
  • Awareness of Good Clinical Practice guidence
  • Willingness to work at other hospital sites within the Trust
