Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Rheumatology team within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT). We are seeking a clinician with imagination, drive and commitment to work across Morecambe Bay.

Full time, but applications would be welcome from those wishing to work part time.

This is a great opportunity to be part of the Rheumatology Department who are seeking a replacement Consultant Rheumatologist to join a team of 3.5 consultants, 4 specialist registrars, 2 GPSI’s, specialist nursing staff and fully functional wider MDT, supported by input from all associated specialties.

This is a replacement post and we are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward-looking rheumatologist. There is no GIM commitment for this post. The post is for a full-time contract (10 PAs) but the option to work flexibly (less than full time) exists if it is the candidate’s preference. The job is available as soon as a successful candidate is appointed.

Working for our organisation

The post will be based at Furness General Hospital,  with the expectation  to work at the other sites as required. We are perfectly positioned with the Lake District on our doorstep and Manchester only one hour away. There is access to delightful countryside, excellent leisure facilities and low cost housing as well as state grammar schools for boys and girls both of which are outstanding.

UHMBFT provides one of the main NHS settings for students from Lancaster Medical School as we co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the clinical component of Lancaster Medical Schools MBChB degree programme. We are a training site for Specialist Trainees in Radiology as part of the North West School of Radiology and the Trust provides the majority of clinical attachments for students at Lancaster Medical School. There are ample opportunities to be involved in teaching if you wish.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The assignment of specific clinical responsibilities will be agreed with the post holder on appointment.  A tentative job plan is included which may be adjusted to suit the service needs and the interests of the new post holder. The opportunity exists for the successful applicant to support a special interest. The post holder will be a member of the Medical Division and contribute to the provision of a high quality service, including achievement of the emergency access targets and other relevant quality standards.

You will be expected to provide excellent communication with GPs and members of the multidisciplinary team and to be involved in clinical audit and other clinical governance responsibilities.

Education and training of junior medical staff: In addition, education of GPs, nurses, technical and paramedical staff where required. Medical students from Liverpool and Lancaster University also are taught within the department.

Self-development and ensuring CME requirements are met: The Trust supports the requirements for CME as recommended by the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

Office accommodation and secretarial support are provided to support the post. This includes provision of computers with Internet access via the Trusts intranet. Office accommodation may be shared.

The trust has an electronic patient record (Lorenzo). A PACS system is in place for radiology.

You will undergo appraisal annually, including 360 degree assessment and patient satisfaction surveys. Any issues arising in the appraisal process would be resolved in conjunction with the Medical Director.
