''A great place to be cared for; a great place to work''

“Lake District Orthopaedics. High quality care in stunning surroundings!”

Post name: Specialty Doctor – Trauma & Orthopaedics at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust with base at Furness General Hospital

Substantive Post

The Lake District is quite probably the most beautiful region in England and not surprisingly the National Park is the most visited in the country. Holiday makers are attracted here by the stunning scenery, the wealth of leisure activities and the multitude of good places to eat and drink. But why holiday here when you could be living and working here?

We are looking for a substantive Specialty Doctor to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic team based at Furness General Hospital. The post holder will undertake 10+2 PAs. On-calls will be at Furness General Hospital, a level-two trauma centre, on a 1 in 8 non-resident basis.

They will become a permanent addition to our team delivering high quality Orthopaedic care.

Our Team consists of 9 Orthopaedic Consultants, 1 Associate Specialists, 5 middle-grade Speciality Doctors, 2 SPRs (ST3), one CT’s, one Trust Doctor (at CT level), two foundation year 2 doctors and 3 foundation year 1 doctors.

Our strong ties with Lancaster University offer great opportunities to get involved with teaching medical students and with research. They will be supported in developing an appropriate Personal Development Plan and encouraged to work toward maximising their academic achievements. The last three post holders have successfully gained their FRCS (Tr & Orth) exams whist in post.

We are therefore delighted to offer this exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Orthopaedic Doctor to take up a permanent job working in a highly successful, modern department delivering outstanding results in a breathtakingly beautiful part of England.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical SchoolNorth Western Deanery and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care.  UHMBFT provides one of the main NHS settings for students from Lancaster Medical School as we co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the clinical component of Lancaster Medical Schools MBChB degree programme.
