Job overview

The Pharmacy Department at Furness General Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated person to join the team.

Working within the Pharmacy main dispensary, the post will involve dispensing medications for in-patients and those being discharged from hospital. You must be able to work as a team member and on an individual basis.

Main duties of the job

Working Pattern is 37.5 hours per week which includes rotational Weekends and Bank Holidays.

Working for our organisation

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.

Previous Pharmacy experience and an NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy services, or other recognised dispensing qualification is essential, together with competent IT skills and good basic education including English and Maths to GCSE level.

Essential criteria
  • English and Maths GCSE grade C or above
  • NVQ and Btec level 2 in Pharmacy Services
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of a recognised OTC sales course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy or other Pharmacy Setting
  • Experience in dispensing medications, drugs receipt, record keeping and cold chain maintenance
Desirable criteria
  • JAC trained
  • Experience with clinical trials
  • Experience with Aseptic preparation

Skills Ability and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy working procedures and current drugs legislation
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations including Control of substances Hazoardous to Health (COSHH)
  • Good communication skills, written and oral.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload with good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good manual, accuracy and analytical dispensing skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
