University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographic area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District. We provide a comprehensive range of acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay. Working for our organisation

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, well-motivated Pharmacists to join our team. The post holder will be an experienced pharmacist who has completed a clinical diploma or will shortly complete this. This post will provide pharmaceutical services to wards at the Furness General Hospital site and provide an element of mentorship to junior pharmacists and pre-registration trainees. The specialist areas will be determined in line with areas of experience, interest and clinical priorities.

  • 1x 37.5 hours p/w permanent post.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy


Essential criteria
  • Experience of liasing with other healthcare professionals e.g. consultants, GPs
  • Hospital experience post registration
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working on projects
  • Experience of planning and delivering educational programmes
  • Experience with mentoring staff members

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good verbal communication and counselling skills with ill patients and relatives
  • Clinical knowledge of current therapeutics and practice
  • Organisation and prioritisation of clinical work
