''A great place to be cared for; a great place to work''

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay has been nationally recognised as the UK’s most inclusive NHS organisation. As such we have a firm commitment to strengthening the diversity of our workforce, and therefore welcome and encourage applications from likeminded people who can support our ambition to become effortlessly inclusive. We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.

2020 has shifted national and global consciousness on racial inequity, due to the way that COVID-19 has particularly impacted on the health and wellbeing of individuals from a Black, Asian and Minority (BAME) background, the disproportionate deaths of BAME NHS workers and through the Black Lives Matter campaign that has highlighted the level of inherent racism in society.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) want to seize the moment and take decisive action to fundamentally and sustainably change this forever in our employment practices.

We are looking for an inclusive and collaborative leader that is passionate about truly addressing race inequalities and racism to shift thinking, behaviours and culture at UHMBT. They will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of a Board-sponsored programme of work to become anti-racist, addressing race inequalities and racism.

They will lead the development and implementation of an outcome-focused Workforce Race Equality Standard action plan, which is clear and explicit in how impact of interventions will be evaluated. A key member of the People & OD team, they will drive that shift in thinking through positive diversity, using lived experience and colleague voice to drive change and deliver what matters.

They will need to demonstrate how they have used their passion, commitment and drive to address race inequalities and racism, ideally demonstrating how they have lead strategic initiatives and achieved lasting change.  Key to their role will be the development of open, trusting relationships so they will need to demonstrate how they can apply effective communication strategies and approaches with different stakeholders.

If this advert has piqued your interest and you are looking to find out more, we have a broad range of contacts that would be happy to discuss the role with you, including our Chief Executive, BAME Network Lead, Head of Inclusion & Engagement, and Director People & OD.  Please contact Gillian Day (Inclusion and Diversity Advisor) on 07500 066729 in the first instance who can share our approach to inclusion, her experience of working in the team and arrange a follow-up call.

UHMBT proactively encourages flexible working and we welcome job share partnerships to apply – please include a shared statement in relation to this as part of the supporting information in each individual application.

Closing Date: Wednesday 26th August 2020

Stakeholder assessment: Monday 7th September 2020

Interview: Thursday 10th September 2020
