''A great place to be cared for; a great place to work''

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay has a firm commitment to strengthening the diversity of our workforce, and therefore welcome and encourage applications from likeminded people who can support our ambition to become effortlessly inclusive. We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.

Job overview

The Respiratory Therapist(s), whether OT or Physiotherapy, will support the Community Respiratory Service to deliver their Pulmonary Rehabilitation services across South Cumbria, in the Group,  Remote and Domiciliary setting.  The service provides support and treatments to those living with a Chronic Lung Disease.

The Service covers a large geographical area and as such successful candidates will be required to travel independently between bases and patient's own homes.

The role(s) will be ideally suited to therapists who have a passion for person-centred rehabilitation, a working knowledge and experience of working in the community and/or Respiratory setting.

We are looking for new colleagues who share our ambition to deliver the highest quality, effective and efficient services to all of our patients across this varied geographical area with differing population needs. As such, part of your role will be to contribute to our programme of service improvement, audit and redesign, as well as providing patient-centred, rehabilitation and symptom management interventions as part of our Community Respiratory Service.

Main duties of the job

Duties outlined in the Job description, but specifically the role will primarily support the delivery of Pulmonary rehabilitation groups, home-PR and holistic patient assessments and therapy interventions for symptom management (e.g. Breathlessness, fatigue and physical function/activity).

We, and this role are part of the  Morecambe Bay Respiratory Network (MBRN), which is successfully improving the provision of Respiratory care to patients across our area, by promoting an integrated approach of Respiratory care delivery between General Practice, Community and Hospital teams. With this development brings the opportunity for you to develop close working relationships with the wider team, from Respiratory consultants to local GP practices. We have established Clinical best practice groups (e.g. for Pulmonary Rehabilitation) and you will also benefit from the MBRN rolling programme of Integrated Respiratory Education and a commitment to support your own personal development within our service.

If you are interested in developing your career in Respiratory with us, please get in touch to discuss these roles further. We’d love to hear from you, and if you’d like to find out more about our team we'd be happy to arrange for you to visit or discuss further.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Trust also have an integrated community care group, responsible for the delivery of a wide variety of out-of-hospital domiciliary, community and specialist services, with numerous community bases across the Morecambe Bay area as well as in patients own homes.
