''A great place to be cared for; a great place to work''

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay has been nationally recognised as the UK’s most inclusive NHS organisation. As such we have a firm commitment to strengthening the diversity of our workforce, and therefore welcome and encourage applications from likeminded people who can support our ambition to become effortlessly inclusive. We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.

Would you like to join a team of nurses who are supported by a multidisciplinary team ensuring patients are discharged safely back to the community following orthopaedic surgery?

At Westmorland General Hospital we have a dedicated Inpatient Surgical Unit which comprises elective surgery (Ward 7) and rehabilitation following trauma surgery (Ward 10 – Kendal Suite).

An opportunity for a band 5 registered nurse has become available to work alongside our skilled and dedicated Ward 10 Team at Westmorland General Hospital. This will involve a variety of shifts to work both, days and nights 7 days a week. There may be occasions where you are required to work on the elective orthopaedic ward where full support will be given.

Ward 10 is a 14 bedded mixed sex rehabilitation ward offering acute care to patients following othopaedic surgery.

We expect staff to work together as a team to achieve the best outcomes; you will be encouraged to work with your manager to identify an individual competency pack which will be relevant to the area in which you intend to work and to meet your learning needs.

Newly qualified Band 5 nurses are welcomed to apply; you can work towards Band 5 competencies & develop extended roles. Full support for Preceptorship will be given.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
