Job overview

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our Westmorland General Hospital Team.

Main duties of the job

Do you want to join our fantastic team of staff working in the lovely Lake district?

You will be a Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC, you will hold an Accredited checking qualification and be proficient in medicines management.


Working for our organisation

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We welcome  full time and part time applications.

Hours of work are 8:30am to 5.00pm.

You will be a Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC, you will hold an Accredited checking qualification and be proficient in medicines management.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised pharmacy technician qualification : -
  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Accredited checking qualification and registration with Northwest framework (equiv to NVQ level 4)
Desirable criteria
  • ACT Mentor
  • GCP accreditation
  • Assessor Award
  • Medicines reconciliation training


Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience in hospital Pharmacy or other Pharmacy setting
  • Experience in dispensing medications, drugs receipt, record keeping and cold chain maintenance
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of hospital pharmacy and aseptics
  • Experience with clinical Audit and data analysis
  • Experience in specialist

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy procedures, practices and legislation including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
  • Good manual, accuracy and analytical dispensing skills
  • Working knowledge of training requirements for technical / support posts
  • Ability to motivate self and others and lead a team
  • Ability to talk to / communicate with patients, carers and healthcare professionals clearly
  • Good influencing and teaching skills
  • Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft word and skills for dispensing and record keeping
Desirable criteria
  • Further computing skills e.g. presentations and spreadsheets
