University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographical area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District. We provide a comprehensive range of acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay.

The Westmoreland General Hospital, Operating Theatre Department comprises of five operating theatres, undertaking a variety of elective surgical specialties such as Breast, Max Fax, Ophthalmics, Urology, General and orthopaedics. 

We are delighted to offer a suitably qualified and experienced Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner the opportunity to join our Leadership Team to support and manage established multidisciplinary teams as a Clinical Leader within the theatre team.

You will have Leadership responsibilities for a Theatre Team, a designated theatre and be allocated other management duties. You will provide effective leadership and support to all grades of staff, work within the multidisciplinary teams and undertake the role of the clinical coordinator as required.

You will assist in the management of the nursing and ODP workforce, working with senior clinical staff across all Theatres and will participate in internal rotation to maintain continuity in Clinical Leadership.

Our theatre department is exciting and a supportive place to work. We have a dedicated learning and development coordinator, the department is committed to appraisal, to support continuous education and professional development. We have monthly education/development half days, a dynamic theatre management team and significant investment planned in our infrastructure and innovative electronic patient care recording systems.

You will possess extensive working knowledge of several perioperative environments and applicants must have significant experience of operational and management within a team as senior Nurse or ODP.

You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and strong leadership qualities.

You will be enthusiastic, motivated and flexible with an ability to adapt to meet service demands over a seven day period.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
