Job overview

An opportunity has arisen within Elderly Medicine on ward 23 situated at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) in Lancaster.

This is an ideal opportunity to be involved with the continuous care and development of the  frailty process and to re shape the pathway for the frailty patients within the Morecambe Bay Area.

We are looking to employ registered nurses with elderly care experience who wish to be involved in improving care for frail patients. Ward 23 is a 24 bedded ward who care for elderly patients.  Nurses involved in care will assess, implement and evaluate care needs for older  patients in order to facilitate complex  discharge. 

Main duties of the job

There is a wide range of hours available on a permanent basis with a firm commitment to your development and career progression with an emphasis on lifelong learning. Delivering top-quality services depends on our ability to recruit and keep good staff. We are currently developing schemes to make the best use of the skills and knowledge of our existing staff, as well as attracting new talent. We are going from strength to strength to ensure our patients are cared for by compassionate, dedicated teams who offer safe, personalised care every time.

Full support will be given for you to achieve your developmental needs, this may include Honorary Contracts to enable you to settle into the hospital environment. We expect staff to work together as a team to achieve the best outcomes; you will be encouraged to work with your manager to identify an individual competency pack which will be relevant to the area in which you intend to work and to meet your learning needs.

Newly qualified Band 5 nurses are welcomed to apply; you can work towards Band 5 competencies & develop extended roles. Full support for Preceptorship given.


Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

  • Willingness to undertake Teaching Qualification, Mentoring / assessing qualification
