Do you want be part of a team delivering high quality care?

Consultant Physician with an interest in Acute Geriatric Medicine & Sub Specialty interests either Stroke or Orthopaedics.

The Department of Elderly Medicine has established a frailty team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and seeks to recruit a Consultant Physician to join the team which currently consists of 2 consultants, 3 specialist nurses, junior medical staff, a discharge co-ordinator and rapid response assessors for Lancashire and Cumbria.

The team has responsibility for the comprehensive geriatric assessment of acute medical admissions who screen for frailty. This is usually between 15 and 20 patients per morning. The consultants and nursing staff conduct a daily ward round after which the full team holds an MDT meeting. The frailty consultants are also responsible for review of afternoon admissions until 6pm when an on call system resumes responsibility for review of all acute medical admissions.

A temporary frailty ward is attached to AMU and accommodates 15 patients. Further site developments are planned this year which will see a larger frailty unit in the main centenary building and in which we expect to care for frail patients from medical and orthopaedic/surgical specialties.
