Applications are invited for the position of Technical Services Manager within the department of Haematology and Blood Transfusion at University Hospital of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. This is a full time substantive position. Your base site will be Royal Lancaster Infirmary but you will be required to work across all three sites.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, knowledgeable individual to join the Pathology senior management team. Applicants should be HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who have undertaken postgraduate education. Previous experience working at a senior level within Pathology - Haematology and Blood Transfusion plus previous management, work force and quality management experience are required.
The Technical Services Manager for Haematology and Blood Transfusion will work closely with the new Principal Biomedical Scientist, Quality Manager, IT Manager, Transfusion Practitioner, Pathology Head of Service, Clinical Lead, and Advanced Biomedical Scientists.
The Haematology department at UHMBT offers both routine and some specialist Haematology services. Processing 815,000 test per year, we are equipped with DxH 800, new IL-TOP 350, new TOSOH G11, and new ALIFAX ESR analysers.
The Blood Transfusion department offers routine Transfusion services, equipped with modern Ortho Vision analysers. The Blood Transfusion department provides 10,000 blood and blood products per year.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide leadership and management to Haematology and Blood Transfusion and will be accountable for the delivery of cost effective, high quality, safe and sustainable laboratory services.
The post holder will be expected to Deputise for the Head of Service as required.
The postholder will work autonomously advising the Head of Service on specialist expertise, working in conjunction with the Head of Service in relation to service improvements and service delivery.
The post holder will be responsible for maintenance of UKAS accreditation to ISO:15189, MHRA standards and other national standards and guidelines.
The post holder will perform a range of Specialist clinical/technical/scientific activities and they will provide expert advice to other professionals in the multidisciplinary team.
The post holder will work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to develop and improve services and quality of care delivered across the health economy.
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
