The post

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB), based on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, invites applications for a full time Consultant Microbiologist.

This is a replacement post. The post is available full time, 10PA's, but part time working can be negotiated.

You would become a member of a team of 4 consultant microbiologists providing services for Morecambe Bay Hospitals and surrounding general practices. The department is warm, friendly, open and supportive and has a professional and friendly working relationship with clinicians through regular ward rounds and MDTs. Consultants rotate between sites and provides a wide range of services including infection control, training and education. The 24/7 on call duty is shared between 4 consultants.

About the Trust

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) covers a large geographic area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the southern Lake District. It provides a comprehensive range of acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay.

UHMBT is one of the largest employers in the area with approximately 6,000 staff working across five sites; Furness General Hospital (Barrow in Furness), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), Ulverston Community Health Centre and Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe).

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust has a keen interest and extensive involvement in medical teaching at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School, North Western Deanery and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care. UHMBT provides one of the main NHS settings for students from Lancaster Medical School as we co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the clinical component of Lancaster Medical Schools MBChB degree program.

You must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice, completed Specialist Training and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within six months of the date of interview.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
