Main duties of the job

A job opportunity has arisen on Ward 37, Acute Medical Respiratory, at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary to cover maternity leave. 

Ward 37 is  currently a 18 bedded ward with the potential of flexing a newly built 4 bedded HDU unit, shared with ITU when necessary. Specialist interest in respiratory care, providing acute, dynamic and compassionate care to our patients. We have a fantastic, friendly  and extremely conscientious team who  work closely with the MDT and who advocate collaborative working.


 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st Level Registered Nurse
  • Willingness to undertake Teaching Qualification, Mentoring / Assessing qualification, NVQ Assessors Award
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration clinical course appropriate to area
  • ECDL or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of recent professional development
  • Experience of establishing effective communication
  • Experience of implementing change

  • Previous experience within designated area
  • Experience of mentoring and assessing junior staff
