Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to work within Morecambe Bay, on the edge of the beautiful Lake District.

If you are looking for a good work life balance and look being outdoors then this area offers a great deal of opportunities.  We are looking for a developing B5-6/B6 to join our supportive stroke team at UHMBT.  Stroke services are being transformed within the region with new enhanced care facilities being developed and access to appropriate high quality rehabilitation for all stroke patients once they leave hospital.

As a team we are fully embedded in the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Stroke and Neuro Delivery Board and take part in continuous stroke improvement across the region, including an SLT specific development group for those SLTs working in stroke. Technology continues to be an embedded part of our service delivery and therapeutic interventions.

Main duties of the job

As a team we also work closely with our colleagues within the Speech and Language Therapy team to share knowledge/ our experiences and support our patients throughout their health journey.

This role is a full time post (37.5) with the scope for flexible working.

The successful applicant will be based in the acute hospital sites and will will work closely with the Team Lead.  Care is provided in the acute hospital sites, people’s homes, outpatient clinics and remotely via video consultations.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with the required clinical knowledge and skills to work autonomously with patients who have communication and swallowing disorders. We are able to provide extra training to developing B5-6 therapists in order to support their progression.

As this is a acute and community service that covers a large geographical area, being a driver is essential.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
