We are seeking an enthusiastic person to join our multi-disciplinary team in providing care for patients during their time in the Operating Theatre Department.
Work in support of and under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN)/Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) providing perioperative care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the RN/OPD.
Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient
records.
The post includes administrative duties which requires IT Skills.
Participation in provision of a 24 hour service including shift work, on-call, weekends and night duty is a requirement of this post.
Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve desired outcomes that promote the well being of patients.
Assist the clinical team to provide a standard of care which is in accordance with the Trusts values, vision and Policies.
Collect and transfer patients between operating theatres and wards/departments.
Keep areas generally clean and adequately tidy.
Develop knowledge of theatre procedures, location of instrumentation and equipment required for procedures, to include quantities required and locations of items.
Once competency is demonstrated, provide surgical consumables and items intraoperatively for the surgical team and support the maintenance of a sterile field, under the supervision of an RN/OPD for agreed procedures (circulating duties).
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
