''A great place to be cared for; a great place to work''

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay has been nationally recognised as the UK’s most inclusive NHS organisation. As such we have a firm commitment to strengthening the diversity of our workforce, and therefore welcome and encourage applications from likeminded people who can support our ambition to become effortlessly inclusive. We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.

Job overview

Are you confident in dealing with service users and the general public? Are you flexible to meet the demands of a busy ward environment? Then we would love to hear from you!

We are looking for a Ward Clerk to join the team supporting the Surgical Wards as  Furness General Hospital - with a set day on the Day Surgery Unit

This is a vital role, often the first point of contact on the ward - candidates require to have good interpersonal skills and organisational capabilities.

This is a permanent position 22.5 hours / week

Main duties of the job

As an administrative role, clerical skills are essential and whilst full training on the hospital system will be provided, you must be computer literate and able to work with minimal supervision to provide clerical and administrative support to the ward teams.  There will be a minimum two week  supernumerary period and constant support available from the Ward Clerk Team across Surgery.

This position is to work across the Surgical Wards  with one set day a week, working on the Day Surgery Unit.

As the first port of call you will provide a welcoming and professional approach to all members of the public and staff attending the ward. You must be confident and able to deal with sensitive, confidential information and queries in a sympathetic and reassuring manner.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Applicant requirements

Applications from job seekers who require sponsorship to work in the United Kingdom (UK) are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. Please note that from January 2021, to work in the UK all candidates who are not UK or Republic of Ireland (RoI) nationals require sponsorship unless you have permission to work via another route. Non UK / RoI candidates wishing to apply can self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship here. It is vital that you provide full and accurate details of your current immigration status on the application form. Overseas applicants applying for entry clearance into the UK must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided in continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Guidance can be found here. Not everyone needs a ‘Skilled Worker’ visa. If you are applying for a vacancy in health or adult social care, check if you’re eligible to apply for the Health and Care Worker visa instead. It’s cheaper to apply for and you do not need to pay the annual immigration health surcharge
