Job overview

Volunteer - Set for Surgery

We are seeking Volunteer Patient Champions to support our new and exciting Set for Surgery initiative. The project aim is to help patients achieve their health goals whilst waiting for their surgery in Morecambe Bay.

Set for Surgery – What does this mean?

Evidence tells us that simple changes, such as exercising more, eating more healthily, or reducing how much alcohol we drink before an operation can all help to increase our ability to recover. A new approach has been captured in the Patient Charter, which invites patients to set goals for themselves, to improve their own health. Patients can often recover much more quickly from surgery as well, with fewer complications when they are physically and mentally prepared.

Our vision is to recruit a bank of volunteers who will be able to provide peer support to patients. As a member of our great team, you will help our patients receive the right wellness advice, support and resources before surgery, providing that essential ‘helping hand’ at a time when someone may feel vulnerable and frightened. For more information, please visit our decided webpages here Transforming-surgical-care.

To apply for this role experience with working with the public is essential.
